People often say Buddhism denies an afterlife — that it leaves no room for God. But that’s not quite true. When asked, the Buddha didn’t reject the idea of gods, nor the possibility of an afterlife beyond reincarnation. He simply pointed out that neither offers real liberation. He taught that what continues after death is not a self, but a process — consciousness, craving, and karma giving rise to new experience, like one flame lighting another. Continuity without identity.
